new book chapter 1

His dark blue eyes cast a shadow over my soul, making me shiver. It's almost as if all his secrets lay in his eyes. The eyes that's staring me down into an abyss of darkness and love. I search and search until I can see no more, stare no more. What is he waiting for? I know what I'm waiting for. I'm waiting for something good to happen. Something so good, it will stay between us forever.
He looks away, disappointed. I snap back into reality, not realizing that we were sitting on the edge of a 300 foot bridge. His fluffy brown hair bounces as he looks up at the night sky. I watch him. I study him. His sharp jawline tightens, leaving me in a daze. I fiddle with the necklace he gave me, hoping that would remind him what we used to have. Hoping it would change his mind. He looks back at me and sighs. He starts talking, and I dig my nails into the palm of my hand, knowing what's about to come out of that beautiful mouth of his, cascading off of his soft, pink lips.
"Why do we have to do this, Brookie?" My heart stings when he says my name. "We can't do this anymore."
"Jack-"
"No, stop." Tears wash over his eyes. It reminds me of looking at the sky when it's raining.
I pull back, and look down at my bare feet, swinging slightly in the wind. A teardrop escapes my eye, and lands on my knee, rolling down to the tips of my toes.
He scoots towards me, and lays his arm around my shoulders. I let my head fall onto his shoulders. He smells like rain and Mountain Dew. No surprise, those are his two favorite things in the world. I used to be one of them. Until things got too much for him to handle.
We stayed like that for a while. I close my eyes, listening to his heart beat. I wish I could stop time, so we could stay like that forever. Just me and him, together. No one to come between us. No one to tell us what we're doing is wrong or unhealthy. Just me, him, and the moon to keep us company.
